Two men have been left seriously injured after being assaulted at a play park in South Lanarkshire.

The men, aged 47 and 41, were taken to hospital following the incident in the Whitehills area of Hamilton on Monday night.

Police were called to a disturbance at the play park on Blackmuir Road at around 8.15pm.

Emergency services attended and the injured men were taken to Wishaw General Hospital were there injuries have been described as serious.

Officers investigating the incident are now looking to speak to a group of masked men, all dressed in dark clothing, who were seen making off from the scene

Some left on foot while the others got into a white van.

Detective constable Chelsea Stevens, of Cambuslang CID, said: “We are appealing for information relating to this incident in which two men were seriously injured. A number of people were in the area at the time and we are asking them to get in touch to help with our investigation.

“We are also asking anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time if they can check if they have dash-cam footage that might help with our enquiries. Likewise, anyone with private CCTV that may have captured anything suspicious is asked to contact us.

“If you can help please contact Police Scotland on 101.”
