A man was taken to hospital after he and another were attacked by a gang on Saturday night.
The serious assault took place on High Common Road, East Kilbride, at around 10.35pm.
Police described the attack on the victims, a 35-year-old and a 44-year-old, as unprovoked.
The 35-year-old man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he was treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing for help to catch those responsible.
They said one of the suspects is described as being between 30 and 40-years-old, 6ft 2in tall and bald.
Detective constable Ashley Hind, of Lanarkshire CID, said: “This was a serious assault and we are keen to trace those responsible as soon as possible.
“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw the incident to contact police as soon as possible.”
