Two men have been arrested after being chased down by police cars along the A71.

Officers were called to reports of a break-in at Old School Court, Galston, in East Ayrshire at around 11.20am on Saturday.

Police signalled a vehicle to stop on the A71 15 miles east of Galston in the village of Strathaven in Lanarkshire.

The vehicle failed to stop and officers pursued it. Residents of Newmilns and Darvel reported seeing police cars driving at high speed through the villages.

Two men, aged 22 and 33, were arrested. Police said the investigation was ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Around 11.20am on Saturday, April 22, 2023 we received a report of a break-in at Old School Court, Galston.

“Officers attended and a vehicle failed to stop when signalled to on the A71, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

“A short pursuit took place and two men aged 22 and 33 have been arrested. Enquiries are ongoing.”
