Two men have been arrested after police responded to a large disturbance in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park.

The pair of 20-year-olds have been charged in connection with a breach of the peace after officers attended the park around 7pm on Friday.

Police also issued six fines and another two men were reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to drug offences and antisocial behaviour.

Nine of the park’s 16 gates had been closed earlier after more than 400 people with alcohol were refused entry to the beauty spot last weekend.

Chief inspector Scott McCarren, of Greater Glasgow Division, said: “Following a large disturbance in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow, around 7pm on Friday, April 24, two men, aged 20, have been arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the peace.

“Officers also issued six fixed penalty notices, and a further two men were reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with drug offences and antisocial behaviour.

“Our approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and encourage compliance, but our officers will use enforcement powers as a last resort.

“The vast majority of people enjoy our beautiful green spaces responsibly and I welcome their continued support, but the small minority who intend spoiling it for others will be targeted and dealt with effectively. We continue to work closely with the council and other key partners in preventing and tackling these issues, both in the immediate future and long-term.”
