Two men have admitted carrying out a horror machete attack which went viral online.
Jordan Logan, 28, and Cameron Carnwath, 25, were captured on mobile phone footage lashing out at their male victim in Glasgow’s Dennistoun on May 30 2023.
A judge heard how the pair struck amid “escalating tension” between them and the man.
The victim – who has since died due to unrelated causes – suffered multiple wounds to his back, head, limbs and a suspected broken leg.
Logan and Carnwath now face lengthy jail-terms having pleaded guilty to assaulting the man to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.
The pair – who already had a record for violence and weapons – will be sentenced in July.
Cameron Ferguson, 33, was also accused of being involved in the attack.
But, his not guilty plea was accepted and he instead admitted having a machete in a public place. He was jailed for two years.
Prosecutor Kath Harper told the High Court in Glasgow: “The incident was a culmination of escalating tension between the accused, [the victim] and his associates.
“It is captured on mobile phone footage with one of the three filming themselves and posting it on Snapchat verbally abusing [the victim] after the assault.
“The incident has had media attention with the videos being repeatedly shared on social media.”
The victim was in the area that night with others. He was said to have had a “large bladed weapon” on him.
Carnwath – clutching a machete – and an unknown associate with a baseball bat then appeared from behind parked cars and ran at the man.
Logan and Ferguson arrived on the scene having climbed a wall.
There was then a fight in full view of nearby flats which saw the victim being struck with machetes, knives and the bat by Logan, Carnwath as well as the other male.
The court was told how the victim was heard “screaming” in the graphic footage that was captured.
Carnwarth was described as making a “chopping” motion at the man’s legs
Ferguson – who had his own leg injury – stood at the top of a hill smoking a cigarette as the attack occurred.
Ms Harper said: “He remains there as the others walk away taunting [the victim] on camera.
“All suspects then walked over the grass area and climbed a fence.”
The man tried to stand, but ended up slumped on the ground.
He was later treated at hospital for a number of wounds.
Ms Harper said: “A doctor confirmed that they could have been, in total, life threatening.”
The victim refused to give a statement to police at the time.
But, the advocate depute said that, as a result of the social media clips, it lead to the trio being identified.
Lord Arthurson told Logan and Carnwath: “You have pleaded guilty to an extremely serious offence and will be receiving a significant custodial sentence.”
The video footage captured will be played at the next hearing.
The case was adjourned for reports.
