Two people have been taken to hospital after being attacked by an Akita in South Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to Glenavon Street in Strathaven around 3.05pm on Thursday to reports of a man and woman bitten by a dog within a property.
Two ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.
The man and woman were taken to University Hospital Hairmyres in East Kilbride for treatment.
Police attended and traced the American Akita, which was euthanised later euthanised by a vet.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50pm on Thursday, March 5, 2026, we were called to a report of a man and woman bitten by a dog within a property on Glenavon Street, Strathaven.
“Officers attended and traced the American Akita dog in Glenavon Street.
“A vet attended, and the dog was euthanised.
“The injured man and woman were taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 16:23 on 5 March to attend an incident on Glenavon Street, Strathaven.
“Two ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.
“Two patients were transported to University Hospital Hairmyres.”
