Two drivers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in South Lanarkshire on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the collision, involving a blue Volkswagen Polo and a white Vauxhall Vivaro, on the A70 in Lanark at the junction with the A743 near Ravenstruther at around 7.30am.

Both drivers, aged 20 and 41, were taken to hospital for treatment, one of the patients was airlifted from the scene.

Two ambulances, two paramedic response units, one special operations response team (SORT) and an air ambulance with a critical care team were sent to the scene.

The road was closed in both directions following the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Ross Allison said: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to come forward and speak to officers.

“I’d also ask that those who were driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured either vehicle driving prior to the crash.”
