Two children have been taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a bin shed in Inverclyde.

Emergency services were called around 6.40pm on Sunday to the fire on Inverkip Street in Greenock.

Images on social media showed the fire having ripped through the entrance to flats, with debris on the ground and damage to the interior walls.

Two children were taken to hospital as a precaution following the fire.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said four patients in total were transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Crews deployed two ambulances and a special operations response team (SORT) to the scene.

Officers say enquiries into the fire are ongoing.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 6.40pm on Sunday, October 12, 2025, we received a report of a fire at a bin shed at Inverkip Street, Greenock.

“Two children were taken to hospital as a precaution. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.29pm on Sunday, 12 October to reports of a property on fire at Inverkip Street, Greenock.

“Operations Control mobilised five fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a basement bin store within a block of flats.

“Four casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service who transported them to hospital for precautionary checks.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 18:34 on Sunday, October 12 to attend an incident on Inverkip Street, Greenock.

“We dispatched two ambulances and a special operations response team (SORT) to the scene.

“We transported four patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
