Two 13-year-old girls taken to hospital after consuming drugs at Dumfries and Galloway school

Two teenagers were taken to hospital after taking drugs at a school in Dumfries and Galloway on Wednesday.

The 13-year-olds reported feeling unwell and informed staff at Dalbeattie High School that drugs had been consumed.

Both were taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Hospital where they were checked over by staff and later discharged.

A Dumfries and Galloway Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident that took place yesterday involving two S2 pupils at Dalbeattie High School.

“The pupils reported feeling unwell late yesterday morning and informed school staff that they had both consumed drugs.

“Both pupils were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary to be examined, and were later discharged following that examination.

“The matter is now being followed up by Police Scotland, as per the school’s Drug and Substance Use Incident Guidance Policy. Support is, and will continue to be, made available to any of the pupils and staff of the school in relation to drug misuse.”

Inspector Stewart McColm from Police Scotland said: “Around 2.10pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, we received a report that two 13-year-old girls had taken unwell following possible drugs misuse at a school in Dalbettie.

“They were both taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Hospital where they were checked over then discharged.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are working with our partners to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.”
