Trump Turnberry has been vandalised by protesters over comments made by the US President suggesting he would turn the Gaza Strip into the “Rivera of the Middle East”.

The popular golf resort near the town of Girvan in South Ayrshire was targeted by vandals in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Red paint could be seen daubed over the clubhouse while the greens were dug up and marker flags pulled down.

The luxury golf resort is operated by The Trump Organisation, which Donald Trump owns.

The vandalism was blasted as a “childish, criminal act” by Trump Turnberry.

Police said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Protest group Palestine Action claimed responsibility for the vandalism, which was carried out in response to comments made by the President about the US taking control of the Gaza strip.

In February, Trump suggested the US could turn Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East”. Under his proposals, Palestinians in Gaza would not have a right to return under his plan for US “ownership” of the war-torn territory.

Trump also shared an AI-generated video of a “revamped” Gaza strip, appearing to look like a holiday resort, on his Truth Social platform. The video and Trump’s decision to post it also sparked backlash.

Trump’s comments on Gaza have been widely condemned, with First Minister John Swinney saying any suggestion that Palestinians should be removed from their home is “unacceptable and dangerous”.

He added: “There must be no ethnic cleansing. Only a proper two state solution will bring lasting peace.”

Former first minister Humza Yousaf, whose parents-in-law were trapped in Gaza for a number of weeks in 2023 as the recent conflict flared, was strongly critical of the US president’s remarks.

He said: “What Trump calls ‘permanent resettlement’ is what the rest of the world should call ethnic cleansing.

“Gaza belongs to the people of Gaza. Period.”

A spokesperson from Palestine Action has stated: “Palestine Action rejects Donald Trump’s treatment of Gaza as though it were his property to dispose of as he likes. To make that clear, we have shown him that his own property is not safe from acts of resistance. We will continue to take action against US-Israeli colonialism in the Palestinian homeland.”

A spokesman for Trump Turnberry said: “This was a childish, criminal act but the incredible team at Trump Turnberry will ensure it does not impact business.

“Turnberry is a national treasure and will continue to be the number one beacon of luxury and excellence in the world of golf.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.40am on Saturday, March 8, 2025, we received a report of damage to the golf course and a premises on Maidens Road, Turnberry.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0636 of March 8, 2025.”
