Three men who scarred a man for life in an attack outside a have been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Andrew Reynolds, 22, Callum Reynolds, 21, and Louis Stuksis, 20, pounced on their victim outside JD Gyms near Glasgow’s Gorbals on March 7, 2023.
The trio punched the man on the head and body before he was struck with a metal bar.
Callum Reynolds then smashed the bar off another man’s head after he attempted to intervene which left him scarred too.
The Reynolds brothers, of the city’s Parkhead, and Stuksis, of Mount Florida, pled guilty to assaulting the first man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Callum Reynolds also admitted at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the second man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Stuksis further pled guilty to possession of the metal bar in a public place without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority.
Sheriff Iain Fleming ordered Callum Reynolds and Skuksis to do 300 hours of unpaid work while Andrew Reynolds will do 240 hours.
The sheriff said: “You found yourselves involved in unnecessary violence on the evening in question.
“The consequences were severe and you need to be aware of that and you need to pay the consequences for that.
“The custodial threshold has been met and the only issue is whether to send you to jail.
“You were clearly law abiding young men who lead productive lives and have not came into contact with criminality.
“I consider this to be a one-off and I am satisfied there is an alternative.
“If you are back in this form of trouble, expect to go to jail.”
The court heard that all men involved were members of the gym at Crown Retail Park.
There had been a “previous issues” between the trio and the victim in the weeks prior.
One of the three had approached the man and words were exchanged but he was unable to hear due to wearing earphones.
The second man later became aware and had attempted to calm the situation down between the men.
Callum Reynolds made further comments to the first man before he walked off.
The two victims left the gym with two unknown men but were seen to return to the entrance.
The Reynolds brothers exited the gym with Stuksis who was in possession of the metal bar.
The trio spoke to the first victim before Callum Reynolds punched him to the face and a fight broke out.
Prosecutor Hazel Kerr said: “During this time Stuksis struck [the first man] to the head with the metal bar.”
The second man approached the brawl to assist but Callum Reynolds pursued him around the car park.
Ms Kerr added: “He struck him to the face with the metal bar which caused [the second man] to back away.
“The fight continued and Andrew Reynolds lifted [the first man] up then slammed his body to the ground.
“All three continued to kick him to the face and body whilst he was on the ground.”
The trio went back inside the gym to collect their things before they left the scene.
The first victim was taken to hospital where he was found to have suffered a bruised eyelid, swelling to his cheekbone and a wound to his forehead.
Ms Kerr stated: “This was cleaned and closed with three stiches and will result in scarring.
“[The second victim] attended hospital which revealed a wound below his eye which was closed with stitches and will result in scarring.”
Patrick Brechany, defending Andrew Reynolds, told the sentencing: “On the CCTV, the victims were clearly gesticulating and inviting the Reynolds brothers and Mr Stuksis to the car park to fight.
“They didn’t believe that they had any other choice other than to go outside which is perhaps the first mistake in the build up to this – they were put under pressure.”
Thomas Ferguson, defending supermarket worker Callum Reynolds, stated that his client had earlier told the first victim to “leave his brother alone.”
Raymond McIlwham, defending Stuksis, said that his client was “swept up” in the situation.
