Tributes have been paid to a “wonderful and warm” Scottish DJ and radio host who died in Hong Kong days before her 23rd birthday.
Niamh Jobson, a regular host at Glasgow’s Sub Club, died in Hong Kong on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Jobson, who was born in Hong Kong but grew up on the Isle of Eigg in the Hebrides, died five days before her 23rd birthday.
Radio Buena Vida, which will play back-to-back shows featuring her music on Wednesday on the air and at Cafe Buena Vida on Victoria Road in Glasgow, said it was a “pleasure” to know her.
Her family confirmed her death on social media, saying: “It is with the most insurmountable pain that we take this time and space to inform you all that our hugely gifted, talented, intuitive, wise, fiercely clever, funny, sparkly, stunningly beautiful legend of a girl, Niamh Jobson, died on Friday, January 17, 2025 in Hong Kong, a few short miles from where she was born.
“Today (Wednesday, January 22) is her 23rd birthday. Please, wherever you are in the world, whatever you are doing, join us in celebrating our much-loved queen today.
“We will be in touch in the coming weeks to inform you of further arrangements. Thank you and much love to you all. Rest in glory our queenie. We love you with all our might.”
A post from Radio Buena Vida on Instagram read: “We have been left heartbroken today on hearing the tragic news that Niamh Jobson has passed. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.
“Niamh was a truly wonderful and genuine person. A pleasure to have in our place and on our airwaves.”
It continued: “We didn’t know her much more than the brief moments before and after each radio show but she was warm and polite, always happy to talk and gave off a quiet assuredness.
“It was undeniable she was an absolute trooper and an inspiration in the face of such a struggle.
“We were humbled by recent posts on her IG where she spoke of what being on RBV meant to her. It is in fact us who were even more proud to have someone like her on our station.
“She will be sorely missed. As a tribute, we’ll be broadcasting back-to-back Dub Series shows on Wednesday from midday, live on air and in the cafe.
“There’s just over 12 hours of these shows which feature Niamh. We hope you can tune in to a real talent and a beautiful human taken far too soon.”
Return to Mono, Scottish producer/DJ duo Slam’s monthly residency, said: “We are devastated to be sharing the news that our dear friend and newest RTM resident has tragically been taken from us, way too soon.
“Niamh Jobson, you always had so much love, positive energy and enthusiasm and you achieved so much in a relatively short time both as an artist and as a human.
“Everyone who knew you loved you. You remain an inspirational force of nature and we will always love you and miss you until we meet again. You showed us how to live with grace and courage.
“Your spirit will live forever, and is now soaring high above in the astral plane.”
