Tributes to 'beloved father and husband' who died in motorbike crash

The family of a man who died in a motorbike crash in Argyll and Bute have paid tribute to their “beloved father and husband”.

Donald Smith was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, July 19, following the collision involving a car and two motorbikes on the A83, near Tarbet.

In a statement, the 61-year-old’s family said that he “totally embraced Scotland”.

They wrote: “It is with great sadness that a huge character and top geezer has been lost due to a motorcycle accident at Lochgilphead on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Donald Francis Smith, Strone Point, Drumnadrochit, aged 61 years.

“Four years in Drum, he totally embraced Scotland.

“Beloved husband of Beverly, incredibly proud and loving father to Abigail and James, dear brother to Tony and Maria, beloved son, loved and respected by everyone that knew him. “

A second male rider, aged 58, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment of what were described as serious injuries. Enquiries into the crash remain ongoing.

Mr Smith’s funeral will now be held on August 12, at Inverness Crematorium.

His family have asked for donations to be made to Help the Heroes in his memory.
