Tributes paid to 'very caring' dad murdered in street

David Graham was found seriously injured in Uddingston before being pronounced dead at hospital.

Tributes have been paid to a man who died after being found seriously injured following an attack in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to General’s Gate in Uddingston at around 7.35pm on Sunday, October 6, after reports of an injured 38-year-old.

David Graham, also known as Div, was walking along the path alone when he was assaulted. He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have since launched a murder investigation and are hunting for a silver car which was seen parked near the scene before driving off.

Those who knew Mr Graham have paid tribute to him online.

Ashleigh McGuiness wrote: “Can’t believe this, can’t take it in. It’s the children left behind [and] the family who suffers.

“It’s the lowest of the low taking a father away from their children.

“Now dancing in the sky and we will all be here looking after the kids for you.”

Robert Kennedy said: “Your mum, my wee pal Ann will be waiting on her boy that I’m sure of.

“You were something else David Graham fly high buddy.”

Paying tribute on social media, one person wrote: “Thoughts are with the family. David was a great guy known well by all the community and was a very caring guy. RIP David. Love to all the family.”

Another added: “You were some boy Div Graham you will be sadly missed by so many.”

Police are urging those with information regarding their murder enquiry to come forward by contacting 101 quoting incident number 3143 of Sunday, October 6, 2024. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Detective chief inspector Graham McCreadie, Major Investigation Teams West, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Graham’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

“A dedicated team of officers are working to get them answers and identify those
responsible.

“We have already spoken to a number of people who came to Mr Graham’s aid until the ambulance arrived and I would like to thank them for their assistance.

“However, I am still keen to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the time, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious. Please get in touch with officers.

“We would also urge any motorists with dashcams who were in General’s Gate or Old Glasgow Road areas on Sunday night to check your footage.

“You may have captured something which could be of significance to our investigation.

“We understand that incidents of this nature can cause concern for the local community but please be assured we are doing everything we can to identify those involved.

“There will be additional patrols in the area as we carry out our enquiries and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.

“We have also set up a website that gives members of the public access to a form to send information directly to the Major Investigation Team, which can be submitted anonymously if you wish.”
