Rail services between Glasgow and Edinburgh have been disrupted after a lorry struck a bridge near Haymarket station.

Services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High have been terminated, and all trains between Edinburgh and Dunblane will start and terminate at Falkirk Grahamston, after the vehicle collided with the structure on Wednesday afternoon.

A Network Rail response team is at the scene to inspect the bridge for any damage. It is unknown if anyone was injured.

Passengers travelling to Glasgow should board Glasgow Central services where possible, and the 6.18pm from Glasgow Queen Street to London King’s Cross will instead start at Newcastle.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We’re responding to reports of a lorry striking a bridge on the Edinburgh to Glasgow main-line near Haymarket station.

“Train services have been stopped to allow us to inspect the structure for damage, we’ll share another update soon.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
