A busy motorway was closed after a car burst into flames in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a car on fire on the M73 on Tuesday morning. 

The blaze was extinguished, and police said there were no injuries reported following the fire.

Traffic Scotland said the motorway was closed southbound between junction three and junction 2A before reopening at around 8.15am. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a vehicle on fire on the M73 southbound at around 7.20am on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

“Police were called to assist with traffic management.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.11am on Tuesday, May 10 to reports of a vehicle fire on the M73 southbound.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, between junctions 3 and 2A, where firefighters extinguished a fire which had taken hold of a car.”

“Crews left the scene after working to make the area safe.”

“There were no casualties.”
