Tickets booked for Glasgow’s European Championship fan-zone have been cancelled after a glitch meant they were available earlier than advertised.
Glasgow Life has now confirmed anyone who purchased a place at the event before the stated 10am release time will now have their place cancelled “in the interest of fairness”.
The free-tickets were completely booked out shortly after they officially became available at 10am on Tuesday, with hundreds of fans disappointed to be missing out as Scotland take on Czech Republic, England and Croatia.
But they will have a second chance at guaranteeing their place at the Glasgow Green event next month as the cancelled places will become available again on Tuesday, June 1.
The month-long fan zone will welcome a total of 180,000 fans throughout the tournament that will also see big hitters such as France, Portugal and Germany coming up against each other for the title of Europe’s best.
A statement released by Glasgow Life in Wednesday said: “Following the issue that arose yesterday with the ‘go live’ time for the Uefa Euro 2020 Glasgow Fan Zone tickets, the Uefa Euro 2020 Host City team at Glasgow Life has now concluded an investigation into the cause.
“The fan zone ticket launch through the Uefa Euro 2020 Glasgow website was scheduled for 10am on May 25 as advertised on the Host City social media channels.
“Due to an operational error, people were able to book tickets prior to 10am. Glasgow Life unreservedly apologises for the disappointment caused to fans who waited until the advertised launch time and subsequently missed out.
“In the interest of fairness, we have decided to cancel all tickets purchased prior to 10am and relaunch the process at 10am on Tuesday, June1.
“Whilst we understand that this will leave people who had obtained tickets in good faith disappointed, we feel this is the only fair course of action.
“All other tickets purchased from 10am on May 25 will be honoured.”
The European Championships will run from June 11 to July 11.
Scotland open their campaign against Czech at Hampden on June 14 before travelling to London to take on England at Wembley four days later and then returning to Glasgow to play Croatia in their final group game.
