A three-year-old child required emergency surgery after being bitten on the face by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Irvine.

Emergency services were called to Leven Place in the Castlepark area at around 6pm on Thursday after a boy was approached by a dog without an owner.

The toddler’s face was then bitten by the Staffy.

He was left with facial injuries and was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse for surgery.

Police are looking to trace the dog, described as being cream in colour, after it was last seen running off towards Leven Place.

“Anyone who witnessed what happened, or who may have information that could help identify the owner of the dog responsible, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1674 of February 21, 2025.”
