Three rescued from sinking fishing boat after crash

HM Coastguard and RNLI lifeboats were dispatched to the Firth of Clyde following a collision on Thursday afternoon.

Three people have been rescued from a fishing vessel in the Firth of Clyde after it was involved in a collision.

An emergency response was triggered around 3.15pm on Thursday after reports of the incident between Troon and Brodick.

HM Coastguard dispatched two helicopters to the scene while lifeboats from Troon and Arran were also sent to assist.

Three people from the fishing vessel involved were rescued by lifeboat and are said to be safe and well.

The fishing vessel sunk on scene.

CalMac services were delayed while the MV Isle of Arran assisted with the mayday call.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard coordinated the response this afternoon, April 25 to a vessel collision on the Firth of Clyde.

“Three people from the fishing vessel involved have been rescued by lifeboat. All are safe and well and the fishing vessel has sunk on scene.

“We were alerted at around 3.15pm to the incident, Coastguard helicopters from Inverness and Stornoway, lifeboats from Troon and Arran RNLI and the RAF went to the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 we were made aware of a collision at sea involving a fishing vessel and a tanker in the Firth of Clyde, near Ardrossan.

“HM Coastguard rescued three men and transported them to land. There are no reported injuries.

“The fishing vessel sank and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch has been notified.”

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch, Police Scotland and MCA Survey and Inspection teams have been informed.
