Three men have been arrested after being found ‘hiding in woods’ following an alleged high-speed car chase with police near Glasgow.
Officers pursued a vehicle driving “dangerously at high speed” in the early hours of Monday morning towards Coatbridge, after the driver failed to stop.
Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit took over the pursuit which was abandoned on “safety grounds” before the car was found a short time later having crashed into a roundabout at Eurocentral.
A police dog called Vader and a helicopter were deployed to help locate the three males, who were found hiding in woodland.
Police said the car had allegedly been stolen during a housebreaking and was displaying cloned number plates.
The three men suffered minor injuries and there was reported damage to the stolen vehicle and street furniture.
A Police Scotland post on Facebook read: “Whilst the majority were sleeping, our officers (and animals) were keeping people safe.
“In the early hours of this morning Easterhouse officers spotted a vehicle driving dangerously at high speed.
“It failed to stop and was pursued into Coatbridge where it was lost.
“A short time later Coatbridge officers spotted the vehicle and pursued it, until the Glasgow Road Policing Unit took over.
“The pursuit was then abandoned on safety grounds, but the vehicle was traced a short time later after colliding with a roundabout at Eurocentral.
“Three people were spotted running into and hiding in woodland. All three were arrested and enquiries are continuing.”
