Three people have been taken to hospital as fire crews battle a blaze in the east end of Glasgow.

Five fire appliances were called to a tenement building on West Whitby Street, Parkhead, on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters rescued nine people from the building and remain at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service statement said: “We are currently in attendance at a fire within a tenement building on West Whitby Street, Parkhead, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised a total of five appliances. Firefighters have rescued nine people from the properties.

“Three people have been taken to hospital.”
