Three people have been taken to hospital after a four-vehicle crash blocked two lanes of the M74 at rush hour.

The collision at around 6.35am on Friday forced the closure of southbound lanes one and two at junctions 1A and 2 near Polmadie for a number of hours.

Three ambulances, a paramedic response unit and a special operations team (SORT) attended the scene.

Three people were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the incident.

The vehicles were recovered and both lanes reopened after 9am, police said.

However, Traffic Scotland warned drivers could still face queues towards the M8 with delays of around 20-40 minutes still expected on the road.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today at 6.32am to attend a road traffic collision on the M74.

“We dispatched three ambulances, one paramedic response unit and our special operations team to the scene.

“Our first resource arrived on scene within four minutes and we transported three patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.30am on Friday, March 8, 2024, we received a report of a crash involving four vehicles on the M74 Junction 2.

“All lanes have re-opened and the vehicles have been recovered.”
