Three properties in Glasgow were deliberately set ablaze in incidents related to an ongoing gang war in Edinburgh.

On Monday, Police Scotland were called to reports of a fire at a property on Ashgill Road at around 12.20am, before a blaze took hold of a property on Gala Street at around 2.50am.

Officers were then called to a third blaze in Meadow Court, Stepps, at around 3.40am.

No one was injured as a result of all three fires, all of which are being treated as deliberate.

Police believe these incidents may be linked to the recent discharge of firearms and other fire-raising incidents in Edinburgh

It comes after a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with two incidents of wilful fireraising in the capital, and reset of a stolen vehicle.

He is due to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective chief superintendent David Ferry, Specialist Crime Division, said: “We have officers investigating a number of reports of discharges of firearms, fire-raising and vandalisms across the east and west of the country, which are all being treated as potentially linked at this time.

“These incidents could have had much more serious consequences and I want to make it clear this behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Significant enquiries are ongoing in relation to all of these incidents, and we are utilising all available resources to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. A number of arrests have already been made.

“We will continue to carry out additional high-visibility patrols and disruption activity and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to approach these officers, so we can take action.

“If anyone has information that can help with our enquiries then please contact us immediately.”
