Three articulated lorries burst into flames at industrial estate

Firefighters worked overnight to bring the fire at Westfield Industrial Estate under control.

Firefighters rushed to an industrial estate in North Lanarkshire after three articulated lorries burst into flames.

Emergency services were called to Westfield Industrial Estate, at Deerdykes Road, in Cumbernauld, at around 6.15pm on Sunday after the fire took hold.

The alarm was raised after thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from three lorries.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service left the area at 12.26pm on Monday, and confirmed there were no casualties.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown at this time.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.15pm on Sunday, April 21, to reports of a fire affecting three articulated lorries near Westfield Industrial Estate, Cumbernauld.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene.

“Crews ensured the area was made safe before leaving the scene at 12.26pm on Monday, April 22.

“There are no reported casualties.”
