Three people have been arrested after nearly one million illicit cigarettes were seized at a train station by customs officials.
HM Revenue & Customs officers, supported by Police Scotland, made the discovery near Glengarnock station in North Ayrshire on Thursday.
Approximately 960,000 non-duty paid cigarettes were seized.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of excise duty fraud and investigations remain ongoing.
An HMRC spokesperson said: “We can confirm we had HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers, supported by Police Scotland, working in North Ayrshire on May 8, 2025.
“They seized 960,000 non-duty paid cigarettes. Three people were arrested on suspicion of excise duty fraud. Investigations are ongoing.”
