Thirteen people have been arrested and charged in South Lanarkshire after police uncovered £14,000 worth of drugs.

Police carried out search warrants as part of a pre-planned operation at 13 different addresses across Hamilton on Monday.

Officers from the Lanarkshire Pro Active Crime Team also uncovered quantities of cocaine, heroin and etizolam tablets which have an estimated combined street value of £14,170.

A four-figure sum of cash was also recovered during the warrants.

A total of 13 people have now been arrested including eight men and five women between the age of 22 to 29.

They are due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Laura Sands said: “I hope that this operation provides reassurance to those living in the local community that we will continue to act on their concerns and use every tactic at our disposal to remove these illegal substances from our street and put a stop to the misery they cause.

“The supply and distribution of controlled drugs continues to be a priority for Lanarkshire Police Division and I will seek every opportunity to target and disrupt those that are involved.

“We depend on the continued support from members of the public as they have a vital role to play in reporting information to us.

“I would encourage anyone with information or concerns about drugs in their local community to contact us through 101. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
