A waterpark was evacuated on Wednesday after “extreme rainfall” led to flooding.

The Time Capsule waterpark in Coatbridge has been closed as a precaution while problems were fixed.

One witness said: “The whole pool was evacuated as an emergency as drips were coming through the roof.”

North Lanarkshire Council confirmed the roof is stable except for “minor water ingress”.

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council, said: “The waterpark was closed yesterday as a precaution due extreme rainfall in the Coatbridge area.

“The reason for this closure was due to the main plantroom being flooded – there was no issue with the roof other than minor water ingress in some parts of the building.

“All other areas of the building such as the gym, sports halls and 25metre swimming pool remained open.

“The waterpark remained closed today to allow further checks to take place. We expect it to reopen tomorrow.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”
