Ten cats have been found abandoned in “suffocating conditions” under a flyover in Paisley.

The cats were found stuffed into two pet carriers by a member of the public around lunchtime on New Year’s Day.

They were found under the A737 flyover on Blackstoun Road.

The Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals confirmed that four adult cats were discovered in one pet carrier and six kittens were found in the other.

None of the cats were microchipped or wearing collars and were taken to a local Scottish SPCA rescue centre to receive treatment.

Scottish SPCA inspector, Isla Bell, revealed the conditions in which the cats were found saying there was “no room” for them to move in the carriers.

“They could have potentially suffocated due to the conditions.”

Ms Bell added: “If anyone recognises these cats or has any information surrounding their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
