A teenager has died after being struck by a lorry on a motorway in the early hours on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on the M74 near junction six for Hamilton on the southbound carriage.
Officers had received a report of a man seen walking on the motorway around 3.10am.
Shortly afterwards, a further report was received that the man had been struck by a vehicle and the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed until around time to allow for an investigation at the scene and fully reopened around 1pm.
Enquiries remain ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses.
Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the 18-year-old man, as well as everyone else affected by this tragic incident.
“We working to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.
“We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man walking on the M74 between junctions six and seven, as well as anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.
