A teenager punched a police officer at an Old Firm cup semi-final.
Lennon McLean, 19, struck the constable at Hampden Park on April 30, 2023.
Celtic faced Rangers that day with the Hoops going on to win 1-0.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the officer and a colleague were tasked with forming a cordon at the match.
The “tension” within the crowd was stated to “rise” as supporters became “hostile” to the officers.
Prosecutor Emma Sangray said: “McLean was noted to move towards the dense crowd.
“He, as a result of a flashpoint, was pushed to the edge of the crowd resulting in him being in front of both officers.
“Moments later, he was noted to punch towards [the PC], connecting a closed fist with the officer’s cheek.”
McLean was then “forcefully pulled” away from the officers as they tried to keep hold of him.
CCTV was later used to identify catering worker McLean, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire.
The first offender pled guilty on Monday to assaulting the officer.
Ann McKinley, defending, told the court: “This was a volatile situation – he was 18 at the time.
“This was a young man who got himself involved in nonsense at the football – he got caught up in it and found himself in front of two police officers then behaved in the manner described.”
Sheriff Anna Reid deferred sentence and a motion for a football banning order until March next year for good behaviour.
