A teenager has been left fighting for her life after being struck by a car in Renfrewshire.
The 16-year-old was on Beith Road in Johnstone when she was hit by a grey Audi A3 at the road’s junction with Elm Drive at around 9.40pm on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the girl was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children where her condition has been described as critical.
Police were also in attendance and a 23-year-old man was arrested before being released pending further enquires.
The road remained closed for several hours to allow an investigation of the scene to take place.
The driver of the Audi was uninjured.
Police are now appealing for witnesses as enquires continue.
Sergeant Alan Cook said: “I am appealing to people and motorists who were in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.
“In particular, if you have a dash cam device, please check the footage as it could provide vital information for our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Road Policing officers via 101.
