A teenage girl has been airlifted to hospital with “serious injuries” after a crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

Officers were alerted to the collision, involving three vehicles, which happened at around 5pm on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the B7079 at its junction with the A712 Newton Stewart to New Galloway Road.

Police confirmed the 17-year-old female driver of a white Audi A1 was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with “serious injuries”.

A 15-year-old passenger from the car was also taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary before he was discharged without injury.

The occupants of the other two vehicles, a blue MAN lorry and a silver Renault Clio, were also uninjured.

The road was closed for around four hours while investigations were carried out by officers.

The force is now urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.

Constable Liza Murdoch, of the Dumfries & Galloway Road Policing Unit, said: “Enquiries into the cause of this crash are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone with information, or who may have dashcam footage, to get touch.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 2696 of September 11, 2024.”
