Teen who murdered Kayden Moy boasts about killing in video from prison

A teenager who murdered a schoolboy at a beach in North Ayrshire has appeared to boast about the killing in a TikTok video from prison, just a week after he was given a life sentence.

Jay Stewart, 18, was found guilty of murdering Kayden Moy at Irvine Beach, alongside Cole Turley, 18, and a 15-year-old boy who can’t be named for legal reasons.

The three teenagers were given life sentences following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Just over a week after being sentenced, Stewart has allegedly posted a video online from HMP Polmont boasting about stabbing the 16-year-old.

He appears to refer to Kayden by using his initials, KM, during a rap and can be heard to say that people know “KM is dead”. He goes on to say “everyone knows my scheme is violent, big plan for future ahead. I just love being a bloody ned”.

He also appears to threaten further violence following his jail term.

STV News understands the Scottish Prison Service is investigating the video.

A spokesperson said: “We understand the lasting impact this kind of offending has on families and the significant distress such videos can cause.

“Our staff work hard to keep prisons safe and secure, using all available technology and intelligence to prevent illicit items, including mobile phones, entering our establishments.

“While we do not comment on individuals, we continue to work with Police Scotland, and other partners, to take action against those who attempt to breach our security.”

Sharing the video, Kayden’s dad, Paul Moy, called on HMP Polmont to investigate.

He wrote: “Today my family was devastated by a leaked video from inside Polmont showing Jay Stewart convicted of killing my son singing, laughing, and appearing to boast about taking my son’s life.

“Nothing will ever prepare a parent for something like this. We live every day with the heartbreak of losing Kayden while the person responsible appears to show no remorse and no respect.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Murder trial

The High Court heard how Stewart and the 15-year-old, while acting with Turley, pursued Kayden and caused him to fall to the ground during the incident on May 17 last year.

Turley fatally stabbed Kayden amid a dispute between rival gangs from East Kilbride, Lanarkshire.

The three teens, members of the Murray Boys gang, fled the busy beach. They went on to create a rap song mocking Kayden.

Kayden was an amateur footballer who played for Busby AFC and part of the rival Himshie gang.

Turley also acted out the vicious murder on the couch of a friend whose flat was used as a hideout.

Stewart was subject to a community payback order at the time for possession of a machete, which was imposed four days before the murder. His other previous conviction was a breach of the peace with a knife.

The court heard that Stewart and the other teenager had previous ill will and malice towards him.

Stewart and the 15-year-old had lodged a special defence of incrimination against Turley.

But the jury returned a unanimous verdict of murder for Stewart, and a majority verdict of murder for the 15-year-old at the High Court in Glasgow last month.

Jurors had determined the duo acted alongside Turley when committing the murder.

Stewart was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years.

Turley was also jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years. And the 15-year-old was sentenced to life with a minimum of 14 years, which will start in secure accommodation until he is 19.
