A teenager is in hospital having sustained serious injuries in a crash in South Ayrshire.

The incident took place at around 7.35am on the B7045 at the junction with the B742 on Wednesday when a blue Vauxhall Vectra collided with a blue Ford Kuga.

The 19-year-old driver of the Vauxhall suffered serious injuries in the collision.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock and subsequently to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

A 35-year-old male, who was driving the Ford, was uninjured.

The road was closed for around seven and a half hours to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant Craig Beaver of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may have information to get in touch.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage from around the time of the crash on Wednesday morning.

“If you can help please call 101, quoting reference 0429 of November 17.”
