Teen charged after trying to escape police by jumping into River Clyde

A teenager has been charged after trying to escape from officers by jumping into the River Clyde.

Police were called to Clyde Street at around 5.50pm on Thursday, following reports of drug dealing in the area.

When officers arrived, a man fled the scene and jumped into the River Clyde.

STV News understands this prompted an emergency response, with the nearby Albert Bridge closed as officers dealt with the situation before reopening a short time later.

A 19-year-old man was eventually pulled from the water and arrested by officers.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 5.50pm on Thursday, August 27, police were called to a report of suspected drug-dealing activity in Clyde Street, Glasgow.

“Officers attended, and a man made off from the scene into the River Clyde.

“A 19-year-old man was retrieved from the water and was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with obstruction, breach of the peace and culpable and reckless conduct.

“He was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.”
