A teenager on trial for murdering a 16-year-old at Irvine beach allegedly told police he did not see the fatal stabbing.
The 15-year-old boy and co-accused Jay Stewart, 18, are accused of killing Kayden Moy on May 17, 2025.
Cole Turley, 18, pleaded guilty to the murder before the trial started at the High Court in Glasgow.
On Friday, jurors were read notes from a police statement given by the 15-year-old the day after the incident, when he was initially a witness and not a suspect.
The boy stated that he was “not in a feud with Kayden and have no knowledge of any dispute between Cole and Jay.”
It was claimed that he did not know Kayden would be at the beach and did not know if Kayden was in a gang.
The trial had previously heard that Turley, Stewart and the 15-year-old were part of The Murray Boys gang of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. Kayden and his friends were stated to be members of the rival Himshie gang.
The 15-year-old went on to say that he did not take any weapons to the beach and had no knowledge if Stewart and Turley did.
It was claimed that the pair “did not show” or “present” weapons.
The boy stated that he noticed Kayden with friends and perceived them as a threat to him and his friends.
It was claimed that an unknown person approached them to warn the boy, Stewart and Turley to run as Kayden had seen them.
The boy stated that they were chased to a grass area of the beach.
The statement went on: “Did not see Cole chase after Kayden. Did not see Cole brandish weapon. Did not see him stab him.”
It was claimed the boy was “walking away” at the time of the incident and referred the officer to mobile phone footage that had been circulated at the time.
The boy stated that he heard screaming and was “aware something serious had happened, unsure what.”
It was claimed: “Did not see Kayden fall or collapse. All his friends seen running from sand dunes on the beach. Walked away with Jay.
“Cole came from behind and made no reference to what happened and did not say anything about stabbing Kayden.”
The boy stated that the trio left the scene in a taxi.
He said: “There was no reference at all to the incident, not talking about it in the taxi and I still have no knowledge of it.”
The boy claimed that the trio walked about before going to a friend of Turley’s home.
Jurors heard that the boy was arrested and charged with murder on June 4, 2025.
A detective told jurors that Stewart was arrested, cautioned and charged on May 19, 2025.
He is claimed to have replied: “I didn’t murder him. I didn’t pursue at him. I did not go at him with a weapon and did not show. No way I was going to use a weapon.”
In relation to a charge of an attempt to pervert the course of justice, Stewart allegedly replied: “I didn’t change any of my clothes. Just no comment, no comment man.”
A senior fingerprint examiner told the court that Turley’s fingerprint was found on a lock back knife recovered.
It was stated that Stewart’s print was found on an extendable baton, while the 15-year-old’s print was recovered from a window frame at Turley’s friend’s property.
The 19-year-old witness previously gave evidence that the trio visited him on the night of the incident and left before armed police entered his home.
The murder charge says Stewart, the 15-year-old, while acting with Turley pursued Kayden and caused him to fall to the ground before they repeatedly stabbed him to the body.
It is alleged that Stewart and the other teenager had previous ill-will and malice towards him.
The trial continues before Judge Lord Scott.
