Teacher who abused partner and threatened to kill dog banned from classroom for two years

A teacher who subjected his ex-partner to four years of domestic abuse has been banned for two years from the classroom.

Jakub Nipps’ actions were found to be a “serious departure of standards” after he was convicted at Greenock Sheriff Court of abusing his ex-partner between March 1, 2020 and April 7, 2024.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) heard that Nipps demonstrated a concerning pattern of abusive behaviour after he shouted and swore, acted aggressively, sent abusive and derogatory messages, and threatened to end his life on “various occasions”.

It was also heard that the secondary school teacher threatened to kill his ex-partner’s dog.

One incident saw him place his arms around her, before lifting her and putting her in another room. Another saw him strike her with his knee during a struggle over a WiFi router.

Nipps was described as having “genuine remorse” for his actions, however, the panel could not rule out the possibility that he could behave in a similar way in the future due to the offences happening within a five year period.

In a fitness to teach hearing, the GTCS struck Nipps from the teaching register for two years.

In January, he was handed a Community Payback Order with a supervision requirement of two years and a requirement to undertake 175 hours of unpaid work to be completed within 12 months.

He also received a non harassment order for a period of 12 months.

Following the decision by the GTCS, Nipps has 28 days to appeal the decision to the Court of Session.
