A swan on the railway line has halted trains at Glasgow Central station during rush hour.

ScotRail confirmed that the bird on the railway line is causing services to be cancelled, delayed and revised on Monday.

Avanti West Coast services between Glasgow Central and London Euston have been disrupted.

TransPennine Express services between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport are also affected.

ScotRail services across the country to multiple destinations are also facing disruption.

National Rail said services could be affected until around 7.30pm.

Network Rail said some trains are still moving at a reduced speed.

A statement read: “We’re dealing with a swan on the tracks at Glasgow Central high-level station.

“Services to/from the station are being disrupted, but trains are still moving at a reduced speed.

“Thanks for your patience if you’re affected.”

A ScotRail notice added at 6.30pm that the swan was a “little distressed” but was recovering after being rescued.

The statement read: “We have reports of a swan on the line in the area of platform 1 at Glasgow Central station.

“Our staff are on site waiting on access to the line to attempt to remove the swan to a place of safety.”
