‘Suspicious’ object washes up on beach as 30m cordon in place

Emergency services are dealing with a suspicious object that washed ashore a beach in Inverclyde.

A 30-metre cordon has been set up in Wemyss Bay and police officers remained at the scene on Friday morning.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams are checking the object to ensure it is safe.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a suspicious object having been found at Undercliff Road, Wemyss Bay around 8pm on Thursday, June 11.

“A 30m cordon has been put in place. People from nearby buildings have been asked to stay inside.

“Officers remain on the scene and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) will attend to check the item and make it safe.”
