Emergency services were called to a property in Marigold Square at around 4pm on Saturday, February 8.
Morgan Dunn, 34, was found seriously injured and died at the scene.
Maruis Bauba appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with murder and a second charge of attempted housebreaking with intent to steal.
The 26-year-old from the town made no plea and was remanded in custody.
He is due back in court within eight days.
