Supporters' bus with passengers on board catches fire near Celtic Park

Football fans were forced to evacuate a supporters’ bus after it caught fire near Celtic Park.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Clyde Gateway outside the Emirates Arena around 2.25pm, shortly after Celtic’s 1-0 defeat to Rangers.

A statement by McLean’s Coaches said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The company also said that families with children were on board as the blaze started, but were evacuated safely.

Police confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.

A statement read: “We can confirm that one of our coaches was involved in an incident outside Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon while passengers were on board.

“The emergency services attended, and the incident is now being investigated by the relevant authorities. We are cooperating fully with their enquiries and are unable to comment on the cause at this stage.

“Our immediate concern is for everyone who was on board, including the families affected by what was a very frightening incident.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.25pm on Sunday, 20 September to reports of a bus on fire near to the Clyde Gateway, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a bus.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
