A support worker from Glasgow has been struck off after he repeatedly punched his colleague while at a service user’s home.

Andrew Mcshane punched his male co-worker during an altercation on September 23, 2024, while employed by Key Housing Association in Glasgow.

According to a newly released report by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), Mcshane punched the man three times causing injury.

While the service user was not in the room at the time, they were in close proximity according to the SSSC.

In evidence given in the aftermath of the fight, Mcshane claimed he was provoked by his co-worker, but admitted throwing the first punch.

The incident resulted in the police being called to the service user’s home and causing them distress.

The report stated: “Your actions showed a disregard of the welfare, safety, health and well-being of service users and colleagues. Your behaviour fell below the accepted professional standard.

“It called into question your suitability to remain working within the sector. Your behaviour undermined the trust and confidence placed in you by individuals, your employer, the public, and the SSSC.”

Mcshane failed to cooperate with the SSSC investigation and instead blamed his co-worker, which the watchdog said showed a lack of accountability.

“Your comments to your employer at the time were not indicative of any apology or remorse,” the report said.

The SSSC raised concerns over the violent nature of Mcshane’s behaviour and that he had showed no regret for his actions.

Mcshane was struck from the register after the SSSC concluded there was no other appropriate punishment.
