A police probe into a stolen jacket led to two men being charged with a combined 12 offences in North Ayrshire.
Officers received a report of a jacket stolen from a leisure centre in Largs on Sunday, July 7 which allegedly contained the true key of a high value vehicle.
This incident led to the theft of the vehicle and a series of linked offences across North Ayrshire.
Stolen registration plates from Largs and Ardrossan and the theft of clothing from Saltcoats were among the alleged offences. Enquiries by North Ayrshire’s Priority Policing Team identified a suspect for the offences.
On Tuesday July 23, officers searched a property in Largs where the true keys of the vehicle, other stolen property, and a quantity of Class B drugs were found.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered.
One man has been charged with nine offences and a second man has been charged with three offences.
A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Sergeant Fraser from Irvine Police station said: “These arrests show our determination to tackle acquisitive crime.
“This is a high priority, and with the help of the public, we will continue to target anyone involved in criminal activity.”
