A 23-year-old man has died following a crash between a van and a bus on the A77.

The collision happened at the junction with the A719 near Galston in East Ayrshire on Monday, August 14 at around 5.30pm.

Police Scotland said the incident involved a Ford Transit and a single-decker Stagecoach bus.

The driver of the bus was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries.

He later died in the hospital on Saturday, August 19.

The transit driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

His condition is now described as stable.

Two bus passengers, a 68-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were also taken in for medical treatment by ambulance as a precaution but were later discharged.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information, including dash-cam footage, is asked to get in touch by phoning 101, quoting incident number 3147 of Monday, August 14.
