Temporary speed cameras have detected 745 offences in just one week after being installed on the M8 and M80.
The cameras were put into operation on April 2 along with a 40mph speed restriction being imposed at the M80 southbound at junction 1, leading onto the M8 westbound, between Junctions 14 and 13.
Alan Bowater, west safety camera unit manager, said that while most drivers were travelling “responsibly”, some drivers were clocked travelling at speeds of 70mph along the road.
He added that those driving over the speed limit are putting themselves, and other road users at “risk of injury”.
Safety Cameras Scotland said that driving at safe speeds is shown to reduce the risk of road death as it gives drivers enough time to react to hazards.
“Those most at risk in the event of a collision at these locations are the road workers as they have no protective shield to absorb energy from the impact”, a spokesperson said.
They reminded drivers that the minimum penalty for speeding is £100 and three penalty points on their license.
