A school has said it is “deeply shocked and saddened” following the death of its pupil after an incident at a trampoline park in South Lanarkshire.
A ten-year-old boy became unwell at Flip Out on Southcroft Road in Rutherglen at around 11am on Sunday.
Emergency services were called and the child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was later pronounced dead.
Police are currently treating the death as unexplained and the trampoline park will remain closed for seven days amid an ongoing investigation.
The boy’s school in South Lanarkshire has now paid tribute to the pupil following the news of his death.
They described him as a “bright and cherished member” of their school community.
A spokesperson for the boy’s school said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of one of our pupils.
“He was a bright and cherished member of our school community. He touched the lives of all staff with his humour, joy and curiosity.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. He will be dearly missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing after a child took unwell at a premises in Southcroft Road, Rutherglen shortly before 11.00am on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
“The child, a ten year-old boy, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was pronounced dead.
“The child’s death is being treated as unexplained, although there are not thought be any suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. The relevant authorities have also been notified.”
