Iconic DJ duo Slam have announced a second date at their “spiritual home” of Glasgow’s Arches following huge demand.

The Glasgow duo, aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, will play an all night long set at Platform – formerly the iconic space known as the Arches – on Saturday, October 26.

After tickets for their opening show sold out in less than 24 hours, the revered duo have announced a second date for Saturday, December 28.

“We were absolutely blown away by the response,” said Stuart Mcmillan, one half of the Glaswegian DJ’s.

“Since the announcement, there have been so many messages from people who missed out and were still looking for tickets. We had no idea the demand would be this high!

“We personally have so many special memories playing at this venue, and it’s nice to now be able to share that with the fans again – now across not only one night but two! We’ll be having a bit of a deep dive into our record collections and pulling out some of the great, inspiring music that helped make this place so special.”

Famous the world over, Slam helped animate Glasgow’s underground house music scene in the late 1980s, going on to curate the Slam Tent at T in the Park from 1997 onwards.

Setting up the very first club night there in 1992, the duo went on to play at the venue every Friday until 1998, when they started their monthly Pressure nights until 2015 – when the Arches closed down due to licensing issues.

Formerly the iconic space known as the Arches, the building under Glasgow Central reopened as Platform food market in February 2018, offering customers a variety of dishes from a number of Glasgow eateries.

However, the group behind FLY Open Air Festival, Watchtower Group, launched a series of events at the space titled New World last December – complete with a 2am licence.

Selecting music from their entire 23-year legacy in the venue spanning from 1992-2015, the group said Slam: Return To Source will make up for not getting “the chance to say goodbye” to The Arches.

Stuart added: “The extra date will be the final party in this year’s New World series.

“We can’t wait to be back at our spiritual home underneath those brick arches once more – and what better way to celebrate the end of the year than a bonus night filled with epic music.”

Pre-sale tickets are available from Thursday, September 5, with general sale open from Friday, September 6.
