People have been urged to avoid the area after a “large fire” took hold at a waste facility in Linwood near Glasgow on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at a transfer station operated by Viridor, where waste is temporarily held, sorted, and compacted after collection and before transport to recycling centres, on Middleton Road.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent six engines to the scene along with specialist resources. The blaze has been contained, and firefighters remain on the scene.

A Viridor spokesperson said: “This morning, a fire was reported at Linwood Transfer Station. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is currently on-site and has the fire contained. All colleagues are safe and accounted for.
“The council-run Household Waste Recycling Centre next door to the site will be closed today as a precaution. At this time, there are no further details available as to the cause of the fire.
“We are thankful to the onsite team and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for their swift action.”
People have been asked to stay away from the area due to heavy smoke.
Those living nearby have been urged to keep doors and windows closed.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews are currently on the scene of a large fire affecting a commercial building on Middleton Road, Linwood. There are six appliances and specialist resources at the incident.
“Due to heavy smoke, people are asked to avoid the area.
“Local residents are asked to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.”
