Six cases of coronavirus confirmed at care home

A care home in Lanarkshire has confirmed six cases of coronavirus.

Residents of Highgate Care Home in Uddingston are being “monitored closely” and strict infection control measures have been introduced in response to the outbreak.

The home offers “memory care for those living dementia as well as nursing, palliative, convalescence .. and care for those living with Parkinson’s.”

“Highgate Care Home has implemented infection prevention and control measures and the NHS Lanarkshire Health Protection Team will continue to provide advice and support to the care home manager and staff,” said Dr John Logan, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine.

John Kirk, managing director of Highgate Care Home, said they were working closely with the health board and Health Protection Scotland to deal with the virus.

He said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our residents and colleagues is of paramount importance. As such, we are committed to doing everything we can to keep them safe.”
