Sick Labrador puppy dumped by side of road by suspected puppy dealer in Renfrew dies Scottish SPCA

A puppy which was dumped by the side of the road in Renfrew alongside two others has died.

The three Labrador puppies were found near the junction of Tyree Avenue and Cockles Loan between 3.30pm and 4pm on June 14.

They were handed into the Scottish SPCA by a member of the public, who said they had seen a man carrying puppies under his arm shortly before the discovery.

It is thought the man was a suspected puppy dealer, who “callously” dumped the animals after discovering they were ill.

Despite the efforts of the animal welfare charity, one of the puppies has since died.

The other two puppies remain in the Scottish SPCA’s care.

Following the discovery of the puppies, a member of the public contacted the Scottish SPCA to report they had purchased a similar puppy which had died of parvovirus.

The unsuspecting buyer was duped by the seller who claimed their home address was difficult to find and offered to meet them in a public place instead.

The man appeared with two puppies and a bitch which he claimed was the pups’ mother.

The owner told the animal welfare charity that he was then hit with thousands of pounds’ worth of vet bills after trying to save his new dog’s life.

A Scottish SPCA inspector confirmed the microchip from the deceased pet is from the same batch as the chips from the puppies found in Renfrew.

The Scottish SPCA said: “The investigation is still ongoing into this incident so the messaging remains the same, we’d ask anyone with any information to call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
